I roasted three 800g batches yesterday and wanted to post a confirmation that, indeed, missing pulley set screws was my problem. I guess I got used to the extra noise from metal-on-metal scaping because roasting is now quieter than it has been of late. Of course, the lack of metal shavings is excellent too. Thanks again to billc for sorting this out for me. This forum was one of the reasons I bought the Bullet in the first place.

I was experiencing squeaking. It turned out that the set screw for the pulley had come completely out and was resting somewhere inside the rear housing. I found it on my workbench after disassembly. Kind of surprising since my very new roaster has had this squeaking since its second use, so that screw must’ve been VERY loose from the factory to have come loose so soon.
One positive is that I’ve learned a lot about the mechanical aspects of the roaster while working with support and troubleshooting. It’s nice the tool kit is included, but I’d rather not have needed it so soon.
