Back to back roasts — keeping results consistent

Hey everyone,

I’ve been running back-to-back roasts on my Bullet R2 Pro with the same batch size, same beans, and same recipe.
One thing I’ve noticed is that the second roast usually runs slightly faster than the first, even though I’m not changing any settings.

For my 2nd roast, I tend to taper earlier so I can hit a similar total roast time, but the cup still turns out slightly different in taste and feel.

Has anyone else experienced this?
What’s your preferred approach for keeping results consistent — especially when you want the 2nd roast to match the first as closely as possible?
Do you adjust charge temp, preheat differently, or make small changes mid-roast?

Any tips or workflows that have worked for you would be much appreciated.

Hi Ali,

With your first roast the roaster has not built up energy in the drum. When you are doing back to back there is a lot of stored energy going into the second roast. When I am trying to have my second roast match my first one I will let my drum heat up longer on my first roast and let it cool down below my target Bean probe starting temp a bit before I get into my second roast. Taking this approach you will not do a.true back to back roast, but it give the drum time to settle down and release some of the stored energy to give you a better chance to repeat your recipe.

Thank you for your feedback and will test it, especially looking at the bean probe start for the 1st roast compared to the 2nd as I did not consider this previously. Looking at my last 2 batches back to back the 1st one had bean probe reading 149C at the start, & the 2nd 154C. I guess that probably plays a big role so will take into consideration
