Bean Door Handle Threads Wear Issue

I recently ran into an issue with my door handle where the handle would loosen during the roast and when I go to dump the beans I have to re-screw the handle back into the door. After a couple weeks of this and even swapping out the threaded rod now the handle feels loose and I’m not able to tighten it down into the door at all. I can’t see any stripping on the threads in the door but the handle threads are brand new so I’m not sure what’s going on.

Basically, it just kind of hangs on during the roast and I’m not sure if I need to replace the door assembly itself. Any and all helpe appreciated!

@thewildcup the issue is with the threaded part of the handle? I would think a little bit of silicone tape (like plumbers use) would probably do the trick.

Regular silicone tape is temperature resistant to 500F, cheap, and easy to apply.

I appreciate the fix idea but i replaced the threaded rod in the handle with new and it still slips which is why I am thinking its the door’s female end that is now stripped out or something else.

Might look into a heli-coil then? It’s designed to fix issues where the female threads are stripped out or damaged:

@da_kevin any insights for this issue or options for a solution? Thanks!

Hi @thewildcup,

Thanks for the post. Could you take some pictures of the Door Handle Screw and Door?

Best regards,
Kevin

Hi @thewildcup,

Thanks for the pictures. You’re right, the threads on the Door and the Handle Screw seem fine. Could you tell us how you been installing the Door Handle? Did you install the screw from the underside of the Door or just directly screw it on with the Door Handle?

Best regards,
Kevin

Great question I’ve never really considered installing it any other way than just screwing it in directly from the front. Should I install from the underside of the door instead?

Hi @thewildcup,

Thanks for the info. Yes, you should install the screw first before installing the Door Handle. You can follow the R1 unboxing guide (1:19-1:37) for more details:

Kevin

So I went ahead and tried to install the handle following the procedure in the guide and it’s still loose. Any other ideas on how to keep this tight?

Hi @thewildcup,

In that case, the issue might require a closer look. We would suggest you submit a form here:

It might be worth chasing both the rod and the handle with a thread chaser. and then reinstalling from the back of the door.

its a quick process, so the time investment is minimal.

hi @da_kevin I submitted a ticket almost a week ago now and haven’t heard anything back. My handle is VERY loose and falls off when I close the door after dumping for cooling.

Hi @thewildcup,

We initially replied to your ticket, but the email didn’t reach you. I’ve also sent you another email via my personal email address, and have also failed to reach you. Could you check your email settings and address? If you don’t mind, I can paste our initial reply here for you.

Best regards,
Kevin

Oh how strange, when I submitted the ticket the email looked correct. My apologies for that. Yes, please paste the reply here! Thanks

Hi @thewildcup ,

Based on the video, if you’re using a new Door Handle Screw, the threads on the Door might have been worn out. In that case, we suggest that you try installing a new Door and see if it helps. You can contact the distributors in your region and check if they have a Door in stock.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best regards,
Kevin

Thanks @da_kevin I’ve reached out to Sweet Maria’s to see if they have a replacement door in stock.

As I’ve been thinking about how the threads could have become stripped out and loose the only thing I can think of is when roasts complete and I wedge the bean door handle next to the trier handle to keep the door open. I guess let this be a lesson to all Bullet owners that doing so can jeopardize the thread integrity on the door itself.
