Change charge temp between roasts

I may be missing this, but I would like to be able to be Roasting, then change the charge temperature for a different bean. If this is not possible, it would be a great addition to the software

I agree and I asked about this in a different thread back in June.

Sure would be nice to change preheat settings without having to toggle through the modes and restart to get back to changing pre-heat temp.

With the new roast time software, at the end of your roast, cycle down to off on the roaster and on your computer you will have the option of choosing a roast charge temperature and voilĆ !

But that is the same as toggling through the roast modes to ā€˜off’ and setting a new pre-heat temp. I would like to be able to do it while preheating and not lose the current roast info.

For me, I’m happy to be able to change the charge temp so easily when roasting multiple beans, which the new software enables one to do.

I don’t think that is anything new for the software though since if you use bac button for back to back roasting once you press it then you can change preheat temp with computer. But once you start preheating you can’t change your mind and change pre-heat without losing everything and starting over. As far as I know anyway.

I think you can change it on the roaster itself using the buttons on the panel while it’s pre-heating. I did this the other day (I think), when I couldn’t find a way to change it in RoastTime…

I always use the buttons to change parameters.
Once you start preheating there is no way to change the preheat temperature selected unless you cycle through the modes back to preheat temperature to change it and start over. It doesn’t matter if you use the panel PRS button or the computer. Let’s say I start preheating at 482 and I edit the current profile and then I look at some old roast and decide I really want to go to 500 or maybe 464 before I start the roast. There is no way to do this on the fly once preheating has started with pushing PRS on panel or computer and cycling through modes back to off and entering new preheating to change it. In doing this if it’s less than 5 minutes no profile info gets saved. And after 5 minutes the profile gets saved but using the ā€˜edit previous profile’ is all you can do.
Basically once you set the preheat temp you are locked in until end of roast one way or another (cycling through modes) and have to completely start all over and reenter your profile notes and bean weight etc. to start a new roast with a different starting preheat temp… Not the end of the world but very annoying to me anyway.
If you can do it somehow let me know please.

Hrm… Maybe it’s an R2 vs R1 difference? My R2 will let me change the pre-heat temp on the panel while it is preheating. I will see if I can grab a video of it on my next roast. However, I did notice yesterday that it will not let me change the pre-heat temp once it has stabilized and transitioned to ā€œcharge mode.ā€

Here’s a quick video showing how I am able to change the preheat temp in the first few minutes after I start a pre-heat. It seems to stop eventually, I suspect when the PID algorithm takes over to determine when it finally hits a stabilized temp to transition to ā€œCharge modeā€

Wow! That is exactly what I would like to be able to do with my R1.
I just tried it one more time the exact same as you did to make sure once again it won’t do this.
I’m sure it’s a simple software change but for some reason they don’t seem to want to bother with it.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
Happy roasting!

You’re very welcome… If I had my way. I’d love to be able to set a ā€œPre-Heatā€ recipe that let’s me Pre-Heat until the IBTS reaches, say, 250C, then once that happens, set the Pre-Heat temp to 230, and wait until the environment stabilizes. I still see differences between the 1st and 2nd batches, and being able to heat higher and then let the system settle back into equilibrium seems like a better way to help the 1st batch be more consistent with subsequent batches, using the back-to-back mode.
