As we all know, the firmware updates presented so far have had a number of bugs. v46 is still posted on the firmware downloads page, and I can successfully roast on that firmware. It has the benefit of no dead man’s switch as well. I tried v74 right after it was released and it was terrible, the IBTS error dropped the power to zero shortly into my roast and never recovered. Support told me they would be working on that, and that the induction module firmware needed updated to make it work with 74 correctly.
I now see they’ve posted a firmware update for the main unit, v79, and an induction module firmware update, v28. Has anyone tried them yet? Can anyone give feedback? I’m very hesitant to try them because there’s no prior induction firmware module firmware posted to revert back to in the event the combo of v79 + v28 turns out to be a disaster.
Aillio, if you’re monitoring, could you please post the previous firmware for the induction module as well? I’d try the new combo, but only if I can revert back in the event there are significant problems with v28.
Are the instructions for control panel and induction module the same?
Is there different instructions to update induction module? @Jacob could you reply with current instructions please, Thank you
(I am not trying to get pass 200 characters.)
I just downloaded both, first control panel, restarted machine, than induction update. Ran a 700g roast, no issues with this roast, I did every minute or so hit the F2 button, never got a dead mans warning or drop to zero, working as did with 46…so far so good. roast profile
Do you know what happens when you don’t hit F2 every minute? Curious if it’s really like 46 without DMS warnings.

Seems like you got it working. We are working on a more elaborate guide, but the procedure is just as the control board update.
Hopefully this V28 will solve the false error reporting of high temperatures.
I will try without hitting F2 on my next roast and update:
Make sure you update control panel update first, induction second

I ran two roast today, around 194 C got a dead man warning, but no zero error, just hit F2 reset, first roast went off again one more time. Second roast only went off once around 195 C, no zero error just had to hit F2 to reset, both roasts continued as planned. I did on both roast run on recipe.
Thank you very much for doing that! It seems as though 79 has fixed all of the weird issues with the DMS in previous versions, but it’s still not as good as 46 on the R2 Pro, which never shows the DMS. I suppose the next question is whether there is any benefit to 79 that would force someone to install it over 46. On my roaster, 46 seems to be working just fine.
You won’t get the DMS in 46 as it was not implemented
V46 won’t show you many errors so you will be in the blind. This is fixed in 74 on wards.
ROR smoothing and displays are also optimized on later firmwares.
Now that another month has passed, any consensus on the stability of the latest firmwares? I’ve never updated beyond 46 since I’ve had the R2 Pro- after prior nightmares with an R1 I had a few years back that was bricked after a failed update. Of course I want to take advantages of product evolution, but not in exchange for headaches. By now, Aillio should have the maturity to sufficiently test firmware updates before release, making it a seamless experience with barely any user disruption!
For me it was three updates: R2 Pro and new Macmini (w/latest MacOS). I had to make sure Roasttime was updated for new MacOS software, and updated both R2 Pro firmware and I have done about 10 roasts on it with no issue.
Upgraded to latest today and did our first roast. No problem, aside from the dead man’s alarm (really wish this were optional, as we don’t typically touch the control panel and use roast time exclusively).
Did the upgrades and thankfully no issues! I’ve been used to the dead man’s alarm since my R1 days, and the alarm itself is more pleasant to the ears compared to the old version, so I think that’s a win
79 and 28 are stable on R2 Pro. Finally fixed the light going out after acknowledging temp warning! Still trying to figure out how to get the default power on a recipe above 9… Sometimes I forget to increase to 12 when roasting 1.125KG. RoastTime doesnt’ seem to distinguish between my R1 and R2 Pro from a recipe standpoint…
