Firmware feature request, if it won’t melt something important: I like to roast Robusta all the way into a rolling 2nd crack and sprinkle the beans into my arabica dark roasts. Getting Robusta this dark means that I am running right up to the R1’s maximum temperature before the alarms go off and the roast shuts down. I really wish I had 5 more degrees C available to me. I’m obviously not sure if the equipment can take it but I thought I’d mention it.
Someone from Aillio will probably respond, but to save you the time, It’s a security feature that must be implemented in order to get the certification for the machine. The dead man alarm can’t be changed, so you must be present and push a button to prevent shutdown. If you don’t press a button on the roaster, any button other than PRS, the machine will shut down every time, and there’s no way to change that or the temperature at which that happens.
This has nothing to do with the dead man alarm. Thanks though.
Oh, I apologize. Now, I’ll start with a picture.
I’m afraid that there could be something wrong with the machine, because you can’t go darker than the beans in the picture. And the beans pictured are undrinkable. They are from a seasoning roast, but you might have a problem with something on the machine, because the max temp, as specified in the manual, is 244°C BT. And even that seems excessively high, because the beans in the picture weren’t even close to that, and they were mostly ash. They could be ground with a hand grinder, meaning you could take them in your hand, squeeze and they would be finely ground. Also, I couldn’t find a roast where you went close to 244°C BT, but that might be because you have a lot of roasts under your belt. The max temp I’ve seen was around 236°C BT.

As I’ve said, this is a shot in the dark, since I can’t find a roast of yours that reached 244°C BT. If this happens before reaching 244°C BT, I’d advise you to contact support and open a ticket. I do think that the 244°C BT is also a safety feature and can’t be tampered with, but please wait for someone from Aillio to confirm. I apologize again for the previous comment and hope you’ll receive proper help. Have a nice day.
Did you catch in my post that these are a different species of coffee bean?
