IMPORTANT: RoasTime 2 servers to be taken down at the end of August. A guide for migrating from RT2 to RT3

Hi all. At the end of this month, we’re finally pulling the plug on the old servers still syncing with RoasTime 2.

This means that:

  • https://id.aillio.com/` will no longer work
  • You will no longer be able to login to any version of RT < v3.0.0
  • No syncing will work within any version of RT < v3.0.0
  • No debug logs will upload from RT < v3.0.0

In the coming days, @derrxb and @mcaillio will be posting detailed instructions on how to migrate your roasts from the RT2 Legacy servers on to the new ones.

One step you can take right now to make sure your roasts are backed up on your computer is to download RoasTIme 2.5.7.

Windows 64 bit
Windows 32 bit
MacOS

Once installed, when you login or continue as guest, you’ll be prompted to create a backup of your data on your computer. If you have any questions or difficulties, feel free to ask here.

For those who aren’t receiving the Aillio newsletter, this was also announced there along with some interesting other stuff  RT4???

Very curious about the minimum system requirements for RT4. RT has been getting better with time and updates but the demand on system resources has also been on the rise along with its capabilities. Just ordered a refurbished laptop in anticipation of RT4 since my current one has really started to drag along and barely manages to roast.

Should be similar to RT3… @mcaillio would have more insight.

As mentioned in @kafei’s comment, we will shutdown RT v2 servers at the ending of August. This guide explains how to safely migrate your data from RT v2 to RT v3. If you are currently using RoasTime v3.0.0 or above, you can safely ignore this migration guide. This does NOT apply to you.

To re-iterate, this guide is for you if you meet the criteria below:

  • You are using RoasTime v2.5.7 or lower
  • You have not recently installed RT v3 on the computer that has RT v2 on it. RT v3 overwrites some important RT v2 data. This can lead to the loss of your roasts and recipes. Please backup your data before installing RT v3.

We built a simple script to help with the migration of your exported data from RTv2. You might be warned that the download is unsafe. However, it’s a false positive. It is safe to download and run.

You can download the migration script based on your OS here:

Migration from RT v2 to RT v3 steps:

RT v3 overwrites some important RT v2 data. This can lead to the loss of your roasts and recipes. Please export your roast and recipe before installing RT v3

Step 1: Start RT v.2.5.7 and export your roast and recipe data. Check that your recipe & roast data are exported correctly.

Step 2: Download & Complete the export/migration scripts that were downloaded earlier.

NOTE: You will be warned that the download is unsafe. However, it’s a false positive. It is safe to run

Answer the questions in the script. It will ask you to enter the path of the roastime-backup folder. You can drag and drop this folder unto the window.

Step 3: If the script shows a success message, install RoasTime v3 and log into your account using the email address you were using on RT v2.5.7. Your roast and recipes will show up on your list.
