This is more curiosity than critique but I have always wondered why the only way to power on \ off the machine is by physically plugging \ unplugging it into a power source?
Why was there no switch built into the design?
I’ve also wondered why when the machine finishes shutdown mode it doesn’t just power off automatically instead of me having to unplug it from the receptacle.
I do something similar to what Shane is doing:
I get this from Amazon:
Then I can use the supplied power plug with it without worrying about not having enough ampacity.
The switch is rated for 15 amps (as is the one that Shane is using)
Any extension cords that you use should have at least 15 amp capacity.
Also please note that there will be voltage drop depending on the length of the extension cord. (as an example: If you buy two 6 foot extension cords that are rated for 15 amps, you will probably not have 15 amps after going through 12 feet of wire. If the Extension cord is warm to the touch, You are probably underpowered and that can affect your roasts and potentially the life of the Bullet.
For the New R2, They have added and built in a switch next to the power inlet (which is moved to the right side of the roaster)
R2P has a switch, which I do turn off first before unplugging.
I do have to say, it is a inconvenience, but something I will never stop doing.
All of my electronics (TVs, apple box, computer, etc) are connected to surge protectors. My area does have random power outages and lighting storms. If I added up all my electronics it would be probably about the same price as my R2P. The R2P cannot be put on a surge protector, therefore I will always disconnect it when I am not using it. I remember when you ran around the house and unplug things when there was a lighting storm.
Now, for those of you without an off switch, I do like the idea of having a power switch before unplugging, this also protects from surges while plugging and unplugging.
Your typical household surge protector helps deliver surge free power to your electronics, delivering power without peaks and valleys. Where do the peaks and valleys come from, “most” from all the other equipment in your house: example every time your refrigerator or a/c turn on it surges the entire electrical system.
Surge protectors that protect from lighting strikes are expensive and most don’t work, best to have a surge protector at the panel.
If you live in a new home and an area that calls for panel surge protectors on new home construction, you should be ok. I am just overly cautious, unplugging takes a few seconds, to protect my $5000 bullet.
and your typical household surge protector would not be able to handle the load from the bullet, and it would suck to trip in the middle of a roast
I don’t think you are. I’m of the opinion that everybody unplugs their roaster when not in use.
Well, I don’t know about the R2 Pro, but my R1 never ever had a problem with that, and I always plug it into an outlet with surge protection. On 250 roasts never tripped once. As far as I’m concerned, a little protection is better than no protection at all, but to each his own. That’s why I’m asking if that’s something specific for R2, as I didn’t find anything in the manual. You did say, in your previous post, that you cannot plug the Bullet in an outlet with surge protection, not that you don’t see the point. Maybe that’s the misunderstanding.
