R1 V2 Thumping sound

I am getting a soft thumping sound from the bullet during the pre heat and also during the cool down of the roaster. I am not sure if it happens during the roast as with the beans the noise is masked.

the thumping sound is not consistent seems to get louder around 150 degrees c and then tapers off.

its also much more noticeable at lower drum settings.

not sure if this is cause for concern. it doesn’t make a difference to me so long as no damage is occurring to the machine and the roast is not effected

any advice ?

Things to check:

  1. Is the drum too close to the front plate? Can add the thinnest shim which comes with the roaster to move the drum backwards.
  2. Check drum is moved forward and check the drum pulley is not rubbing against anything.
  3. Check set screw holding the handle. This should not protrude through the door.
  4. Check for beans stuck underneath the drum.

Hi Jacob,

Thank you so much for the reply. I am really enjoying this roaster. it is by far the best on the market.

  1. how can I check if its too close ? is there a recommended distance ?
2.this I have done and the pulley is not rubbing against anything
  2. checked this. the screw is not protruding into the roaster
  3. this I am really curios about. how can I check this ?

also can this thumping cause damage ? and will affect my roast ?

Checking for beans under the drum you mean? I think you would have to remove the drum, which should not be too difficult.
When doing this you can also check the spring pushing the drum forward, this sometimes creates a funny sound.
If you could post an audio clip or video where we can hear the sound that would help a lot.

Just for checking, removing the faceplate and raising the drum for a couple of mm holding it by the shaft in the front should suffice. Of course you need a flashlight to see. It happened to me once, a long time ago, and i just tilted the Bullet holding the drum shaft in front, with the face plate removed, and it fell out.

hi guys really appreciate the help and the replies. I did remove the faceplate and title the drum. the amount of chaff collected was incredible to be honest.

also the spring at one point during the roast does seem to make a funny noise but then goes away. is that normal or cause for concern ?

also between the drum and the faceplate there is approx 1mm
