New R2. First roasts 2 weeks ago and all went well.
Today I started with 1lb of Rwanda Kivu and all went well. Next roast was 1 lb of Guat Coban. About one minute after charging I could see beans motionless by the door and some were between the drum and casing. Then the drum stopped and the rear pully started to complain. I shut everything down and removed the beans. I started back up empty but the drum was jerky and again the pully started to squeal. I’m assuming there are unseen beans stuck between the drum and casing. Roaster is confirmed level.
So I guess removing the drum and checking the pully for correct adjustment is in order. Any videos around that will help me out?
Thanks,
Frank
Drum replacement and pulley alignment might be helpful.
Shows the front plate removal on an R2.
When adjusted, you want the drum to be about 1mm from the inside stainless plate. You can use the supplied shims to help with this.
You can also contact Aillio support if you are having problems with beans getting stuck or door opening during roasting.
Had the same exact issue and Aillio support is aware of the issue and said they were stopping production to figure what was the issue. I can tell you I put the door from my R1 v2 on the R2 and not have the issue so figure it is the door. They said to me that for now put a .3cm thick cardboard under the front legs to keep the beans from pushing on the door. I found that indeed does work for now. I would definitely email support so they know more people are having the same issue. Also it was an errant bean causing the drum stoppage as suddenly a squashed hard bean showed up in cooling tray and all ok after that. Again, definitely contact support and hopefully they have a real solution to the door issue.
Yup that is exactly what mine is doing. I’ll put in a service request tomorrow. In the meantime I’ll try the cardboard recommendation and I also attached a 2 lb weight to the door handle to try and keep it down. Thanks for the info jherbert.

Thanks for the info Jacob. I hope all is well with you and yours there in Bangkok. Take care,
Frank
I’m also having this problem–knocking sounds, door being pushed open by beans. I’ve been using a thick rubber band around the door handle and bean chute to keep it closed but even then sometimes beans try to push out and get caught between the drum and housing.
Based on information provided by Jonas and jherbert I made a few modifications.
- I put a piece cardboard under the front legs to elevate the front slightly.
- Checked that the 2 front shims had the rough side facing the bearing. I also ran my finger over the front paddles and they did not come back bloody… so thats good
- Hung 2 lbs of scuba belt weights on the door handle to keep it from popping open.
I then preheated to 220c for 30 minutes and did not notice any unusual sounds. Then roasted 350g of regular sized beans following Aillio’s recommended recipe. All went well but there were 3 beans stuck between the drum and housing. That might be my fault because I opened the door slowly at first instead of quickly when the roast was done. If interested, a short video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZcO7zXbGwV4
So hopefully a temporary fix for now.

If you can, try to smooth out the vane with some sand paper, then check all the shims - front and back.
The weights on the door should not be necessary, nor should elevating the front.
