Roasting without software

I have a potential bullet roaster asking me if they can run the roaster without using the software whatsoever. Is there anyone on here that can help me answer this question? He is not tech savvy and wants to know if he can run the roaster off the front panel without using a computer.

You absolutely can roast without connecting a computer. There are improvements and fixes to the roaster firmware that do require using RoastTime to install, so you would miss out on those. They seem to be minor changes, generally.

(In the same way that eg wifi routers or cars will have firmware updates available that most people ignore.)

Thank you so much. I was worried about being able to slow down the drum without the software, so I wanted to double check.

Considering the - since ever “agile” and faulty software with too frequent untested and frustrating releases - of the bullet. This is probably the best option to go!

Or try Artisan - well established and professional software that has proven to be one of the top notch Open Source software projects over the years with excellent support and a vibrant community.
Comes with a certain learning curve but in the end it is very rewarding. Already worked with the R1 Bullets and was just recently updated to also work with the new R2/R2 Pro Bullets. Give it a try and i am quite sure you will not regret it.

My laptop died and I roasted for serveral weeks without logging software with no issues. I do feel that it was easier to learn with the software which helped me visualize what’s going on with the roast.
