I get pretty significant spikes in ROR. It seems to correlate pretty consistently with when I remove the tryer to sample. Is this typical? I there any way, other not not using the tryer, to prevent/minimize this? My Y2 axis is set to 40.
Thanks for the help.
Well, your batch size is very small, so bean probe will be very inaccurate. I think you meant dips, not spikes. Anyway, those dips shouldn’t be from just using the tryer, but it could be a combination of small batch and that. Are you sure everything else is well sealed? Also, how do you vent the smoke? You have to have some clearance between the Bullet and the venting hose, or whatever you’re using. I see you have the R2, so the airflow sensor could give you some indication. I don’t really see anything on your IBTS ROR that would indicate that there was a dip, so it’s probably the combination of small batch, tryer and bean probe not being very accurate for smaller batches. Try roasting a larger batch, 600-700g and see if the behaviour persists.
Thanks for the reply.
- You are right. I was referring to dips, not spikes.
- I am paying too much attention to bean temp. Turing it off for now
- Vent is unobstructed. I’m using the kitchen hood right now. I don’t get much smoke with medium roasts.
- I’ll try a few heavier roasts, but 250-500 g is more my wheelhouse right now.
A lot of this, I think, is just getting used to the roaster and Roastime. Coming from a SR800 this is a different workflow.
Thanks for your help.
