Solution For Hearing First Crack

Well, I’ll tell you @tom29jq , that Taiwanese bean cooler is pretty awesome. And It’s a handmade 304 stainless beauty as well. It gets the beans cooled down super-fast, by way of the heavy-duty motor. It’s really a kick to use. It gets every single bean to eject when the cooling is done! The chaff clean-up inside the cooler area is something that you won’t have to do very often as you do with the factory cooler. And when you do its extremely simple and easy. The fact that you don’t have to clean the chaff after every roast, is a huge time saver. Its my favorite thing I like about this machine. I clean the chaff (inside the cooler)after about (10) 800g roasts. The cooler is crazy pricey, I know. But then again, so was the Bullet.

Good to know about your experience with that bean cooler…I’ll have to keep it in mind if/when I get to higher volume roasting

Thanks for that ringing endorsement @steve.jungers I have asked him for a price and he’s getting back to me in May regarding a price on the cooling tray because the price of some parts are changing apparently. I’ll probably bit the bullet (pun intended) and get one based on your endorsement. Like you say, we have all paid so much for the Bullet (worth every cent) so it’s probably worth the extra to make life that much easier and more stream lined.

US$67 to have it shipped to Australia (ordered this week so price is current). Worth it though, not to have beans jumping around on the desk. And we paid so much for the Bullet, what’s another $67 … and another … and another (does this rabbit hole ever bottom out?!?@#*???)

 I think not

So USD67 without or with shipping cost right to AU? I am on the east coast of the US so it’s half way around the world from Taiwan. If the cost of the unit is USD67 it’s not a lot (in the grand scheme of what’s already been spent!) but I am more concerned with shipping cost

with. best email him for a price [email protected]

Thank you for sharing this Steve.

Recently purchased a bullet October 2023 and was searching for a solution to this. Any comments or thoughts now that it’s been nearly two years? How is the microphone holding up?

Works fantastic!! As I am little hard of hearing, the voice amplifier is a very important part of my roasting equipment.
Thanks for asking.

The microphone has held up perfectly as it is a bit isolated away from the heat.
Still working after the initial install.

Dont be detoured by the background "bean crashing "sound. Yes its annoying. However I keep the volume down(or muted) to just before I feel the first crack is coming. Then I turn the volume up.Never misses. And yes ,the first crack sound stands out very distinctly amid the background noise.

Someone here recommended that you can just stick the tubing in the tryer hole and listen without amplification, which is what I now do. Works every time, and I can always hear the crack.

I bought this, so I had to make a slit in the end so it would easily fit into the tryer spot.

Works like a champ.

I cut the tube long enough so my big head is away from the smoke.

Thanks to whoever suggested that. It’s analog, and it’s easy!

Is the cooler somewhat like the cooling tray for the new R2 Pro? Coming from a Hottop I was kind of spoiled by the cooling tray with rotating srm.

Hi. I am not too familiar with the R2 Pro cooling tray. And I too came from a Hottop. But this one, that I have,is just like a professional unit in every way and is unsurpassed in my option. I can’t image anything better. It absolutely matches the quality and functionality of the Bullet roaster. It is all high quality stainless steel and hand made in Taiwan.

Hi. Now just get a inexpensive portable voice amplifier and free up those hands! Go Digital . Ha. I works great too.Just saying.

Then you can apply Machine Learning, or better, Deep Learning, to the data series after you’ve run it through and FFT and you and predict, via labeling and multiple eons of learning fed into a pi-torch model to figure out when first crack occurs.

Or, simply listen.

It’s nice when someone puts forth the time and skills to make a really great product. The Bullet deserves a good cooling tray and it sounds like this one is probably what Aillio should be shipping with their roasters.

Hello there,

I’m having a hard time hearing the first crack, and was googling for a solution and came across this post. Is the amplifier still working for you?

Thanks

I am still using the amplifier after 2 years and it works well.
If I am roasting several batches of the same bean, I only use the amplifier for the first batch.

Because I have hearing loss, I also added another amplifier to the back of the front control panel so that I can hear the “deadman” alarm. The deadman alarm does not come from the internal speaker. It comes from an electronic buzzer device that is soldered to the circuit board.
In the photo below, I have drawn a red rectangle around the buzzer. Note that the USB receptacle is right next to the buzzer. I very carefully drilled a hole in line with the buzzer so that I could attach the second microphone there.

Here is a photo of the second microphone in place

This has been a huge help to me.

Edit: here is a good view of the silicone tube that I modified with an scalpel to fit the trier hole.

On Amazon, I found a dual microphone setup that allows me to use one amplifier with 2 microphones.

This is extremely helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything above. I’m not that handy, but I’ll try to start with one amplifier and see how it goes. I’m going to go back to your previous post and buy the same amplifier from ama on.

Thanks again

My original idea for the voice amplifier still works great. On my second amplifier. I wouldn’t be without it.
