Unknown Model and serial number

I recently received my new control unit, which has an unknown model and serial number. Unfortunately, the roastime prevents me from registering an “unregisterable” device. This is particularly frustrating since I have a brand new R2 Pro that was delivered with a broken control unit. I had been eagerly waiting for the replacement control unit for just over a month. To my dismay, the new unit appears to be a refurbished one, as it is covered in scratches on the film.

Consequently, I am once again left waiting for a resolution to this issue.

why I know this is a refurbished unit…the F2 + key sticks, I tried to do a manual roast and the drum doesn’t spin, error 4 and fan error. $5000 bench weight!!!

Sounds like a terrible ordeal. FWIW, Aillio and their US distributor, Sweet Maria’s, have been really helpful to me. I would suggest reaching out and working with them on a solution.

Money has been spent and cashed. I’ve sent emails to both Aillio and Sweet Maria’s. The last time I spend that much money on an online product. I know how this will end: a lemon product, fixed with refurbished lemon parts, and I will never have a fully functional machine.

Believe me, I get it. I had two cars that ended up being manufacturer buy backs within a year (Car 1 and its replacement!) Just work with them and be patient. It’s unfortunate this happened to you, but who knows? Maybe there is a reason and it will all work for good in the end.

Hi Dave,

I’ve sent you a personal message.
About the scratches I think it’s just the protective film which you can remove.

Jacob

My R2 had the exact same scratches on the protective film. That film is doing its job protecting the face plate. It comes right off and will look nice and shiny.

I understand that the issue is with the protective film, which is applied before the glass cover is screwed onto the control unit. If this is the standard manufacturing process, you may need to consider finding a different manufacturer for your products.

The first control unit I received had a clear film when I peeled it off, but the glass was broken into several pieces underneath. I purchased this unit on December 17th and received my supposedly new replacement on January 23rd.

Additionally, the F2 “+” key is stuck, which I discovered while manually updating the firmware. Roastime refuses to update a “unregisterable” device.

I want to emphasize that this is a $5000 product, not my $500 Behmor. While I didn’t expect a 10X improvement in roast quality, I do expect a 10X improvement in the overall product quality. This product fails on multiple fronts, not just due to broken parts.

When you say “stuck,” is there any way to get a pin underneath the button to gently and safely “unstick” it?

Where did you obtain that replacement board from? Normally the boards require a binding (registering) to the particular machine’s serial number.
As I also can see, Jacob did send you a PM, very likely in an attempt to quickly solve the issue for you.
