Updated, RoasTime stopped connecting, USB drivers gone

Hi,

I updated Roastime today just before staring a roasting session. After the first roast, RoasTime stopped connecting to the roaster. I deleted the Deps folder, uninstalled and reinstalled RoasTime. Still won’t connect, no matter what I do it says disconnected… Pretty aggravating! Help, how do I fix this??

I am running Windows 11.

Oliver

I guess I will have to go to artisan. This is VERY frustrating & dissapointing.

EDIT:
Well, Artisan won’t see the roaster either. Zadig says it is an unknown USB device, and installing drivers fails. What do I try next?

Time to practice some manual roasting…

What is going on guys?

device discriptor request failed is most likely a hardware problem. Any of the USB ports or the cable could be damaged, so try different ones.
Also try restarting both the computer and the roaster.

I had tried all of the USB ports, updating and restarting the computer, and a different cable. I did not want to restart the roaster when it was hot, so I finished the production session manually.

After restarting the roaster this morning it did reconnect to roastime. Does this mean the hardware problem is in the roaster? What do I do if this happens again during a roasting session? Could there be a problem with the usb module in the roaster?

Thanks,
Oliver

I would try using a different cable and check if it still happens.
It could be a problem with the cable or USB connector. If the electrical connection is bad this could cause the USB hardware to stop functioning, and a restart is required.
If you are between roasts then it is OK to quickly restart the bullet.
Also make sure that the Bullet is correctly earthed.
Keep USB cables short, and away from the power cables.

Thank you, it’s good to know that I can restart the roaster in between batches in a situation like that without causing damage. I charge my production batches at 310degrees and the err0004 code frequently comes up, so I’m always a bit worried about the machine overheating…

The roaster power earth should be good, I will have to double check it. I am using the cable that came with the machine. It is away from the roaster power but it does cross the cable for the cooling fan power. Is that a problem?

If the IBTS sensor is just a little bit dirty, 310C will sometimes overheat the bean probe and you will get that error. You can try to clean the IBTS or reduce to 300C.
The roaster won’t get damaged at higher temperatures. We frequently heat up to much higher temps when testing.
I don’t think it should be a problem crossing the cooling tray cable, but if possible, you can try to separate them as much as possible.
