Aillio's video about modifying the chaff collector lock mechanism

My feed highlighted this video from Aillio, showing a simple mod to the chaff collector. The video has no words or commentary, but visually seems to indicate some people are having problems locking their chaff collector and this is a mod to help fix that. I came here to see if there was a discussion about the problem and/or the fix, but didn’t see one, so I thought I’d start a thread here. I haven’t had a problem, and don’t quite understand what the mod they suggest would change or fix anything there.

It appears that the chaff collector for the R2 is backwards compatible with the R1, with that little modification in the video. The R1 doesn’t have that extra latch in the locking mechanism.

Looks like a possible factory assembly error.
I have never had a problem with my R1, although I always thought the mechanism was odd to connect, but wrote it off as they do things differently on the other side of the equater.

To meet CE certification requirements we added a safety microswitch on the squirrel cage, and the chaff collector gained an extra lock so it can press that switch. Squirrel cages produced before that change don’t have the opening for the microswitch.

This only matters to early R1 owners, and only if you order a replacement chaff collector: the one you receive today is the newer version with the extra lock, so it won’t match the older squirrel cage still in your machine. The video shows the small modification that makes the new collector work with your existing squirrel cage. That’s also why there was never an announcement — it isn’t a change most owners need to act on, so we send this video to the individual customers who run into it.

It’s not a factory assembly error, and there’s nothing to do if your chaff collector locks in normally today.
