New Bullet R2 Pro user

Hello everyone,
I am joining the R2 pro community with my love for coffee and roasting in general.

I am coming from a rather basic air roaster since 2017. Small batches and requests from family and friends to buy some, and the amount of coffee my wife and I consume is a no brainer for us.

I recieved the R2 pro about a 1 1/2 weeks ago and since then, have ran the 220 and got it energized.

Right now, I am in the process of figuring out my venting set up and that should be done this week. With that being said, I should be roasting my first seasoning batches by Saturday :crossed_fingers:

Anyhow, I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.

Welcome! And kudos on your choice of roaster. The hardest part will be getting through the seasoning roasts knowing you can’t drink any of it. I got my R2 Pro in early June and have been roasting and learning ever since. Just so you will know, the power settings of the R2 Pro appear to be scaled almost identically to the power settings of the R1 V2, so you can use recipes interchangeably. The power settings from P10 to P14 cover the higher output range of the Pro, but from P0 to P9 appear to be the same. Enjoy your new roaster!

Just got back in town, and i will be finishing up the venting tomorrow so I may have a chance to give it a go tomorrow night on the seasoning of the drum.

Hi, I am new to Aillio Bullet and to the roasting world. My first roasting experience was from a used Gene Cafe CBR1 I bought few months ago. Few months later, I purchased a Bullet R2 Pro and I am in the early stages of starting a micro-roaster. May I ask if you have any tips on doing a light roast, medium roast, dark and how to roast decaf beans? I know there’s a lot of variables involved. I’m excited and I’m looking forward to learn from you all and also share my learnings with you as a newbie.

Hi Cali… That’s quite the question… There are literally books written on this, and you are probably going to get 15 different answers from 10 different people here. I would suggest you focus your questions based on your roasts. For example, if you are aiming for a medium roast, and after you taste your coffee, explain what you are tasting and sensing as compared to what you are aiming for, and perhaps ask for suggestions on how to achieve that?
There’s a good video out there from the Swiss Water Folks about how to approach roasting SWP beans compared to non-decaffeinated of the same type. There’s also a good class from Coffee Mind out there, that is free for Bullet Owners…

Like you said there are a lot of variables, and I’m not sure that generalzing is going to be super helpful… Perhaps the only generalization that should be made is that there is a direct correlation to roast level and color, which gets you most (lets say 80%) of your flavor, and how you get there is the other 20%.
