Error 256

Post updating to Firmware version 605 & Beta606 on RoasTime v4.6.16, it continuously shows Error 0256. this is on 3 different machines at 3 different places.
Please help.

According to the manual that’s an obsolete ErC that went away after f/w 386 (2018? 2019?). Related to low line voltage. Guess the manual & ErC spreadsheet need some attention since you’re running up to date everything.

Exact same thing happening to me, too. Though for me it’s intermittent, sometimes it starts up without problems, sometimes it angrily chirps at me with the error. I don’t have a killawat meter to check the wall voltage, but I suspect there are some external factors that affect it (like times of peak power usage in town).

I had a look at your roasts and don’t see any issues with serial 2886. Did you get it fixed? When does the error pop up? The more details you have the better.

Not sure if this is helpful, but here’s a “roast” where I let the bullet run for ~5mins, the whole while it’s chirping about the error: Log in | Roast.World

For me, it happens immediately upon plugging the roaster in. It does its bootup sequence and then immediately sounds the error. I had a successful roast 2 days ago (but was still sporadically experiencing the error prior to that), but yesterday I updated the firmware and haven’t been able to get it to start up without the error since.

Note your Net Voltage: 0 volts. Either the line voltage is below the minimum detectable by the power board or the power board voltage monitor is defective. There are additional possibilities e.g. a bad copy of the f/w which has affected data handling. All suggesting you need some support from your dealer or from Aillio.

But before you contact anyone you’ll need to measure the line voltage at the outlet with the roaster connected and powered up- that’s the first thing support is going to ask. Either an AC voltmeter or (at least in the US) something like a Kill A Watt line voltage monitor. There are other similar brands; this link is to Ace but they’re on Amazon and many other locations- Google will get you there.

Well, of course support should handle this, but in the meantime, if you don’t own a measuring device to do what bab is suggesting, has any of you tried at least to plug something else into that outlet? Plugging the roaster into a different outlet? Tried another power cable? I always have those leftover from monitors and power supplies for PCs and whatnot, but maybe you don’t. In that case, take one from some appliance and try that. Those should be the first steps of troubleshooting and then you may carry on with diagnostics.

I’ve tried every outlet in the house, and different power cables as well. No luck. I ordered a Kill-a-watt meter just for the fun of it. Searching this forum shows that this has happened to quite a few people over the years:

You probably need to talk to your dealer or Allio support especially since this is not normal for your roaster and for the household circuit. There is always the possibility that the variation is on the power supplied to your home but I would think you’d see some effect on other devices in the house. Error 256 on my V2

Hello I have a problem today with error 256 constantly which never happened to me before. I have the beta 606 on my V2 and in info net voltage shows 216-220 something. Can someone help me check my logs? Is it possible I need new control board? I use the one socket as usually and nothing else is on except for external venting. I steered the roast from filter towards espresso so I hope I didnt waste it, but I need help here. Thank you for any help. Michal

I checked your logs and there are some errors regarding the input voltage. One of them I have not seen myself before. First thing to try is another power cable, and another outlet. If this does not help then If you are comfortable to do so, please take off the cover underneath the bullet (pull out the main plug so it has no power), then check that the screw terminals are all tight. Yeah, there could be a myriad of causes, but it’s best to start from the beginning. I don’t really think the meter will do you any good. One outlet or one cord could be faulty, not the whole house. Also, I’m too lazy to look now, but there were cases where removing the power cord from the bullet resulted in not so nice consequences. They do say that once you insert the cord into the Bullet, you shouldn’t remove it. Anyway, that’s for support to figure out. I just wanted to make sure you’ve covered the basis while you wait. Good luck, and I hope it’s just some wiring.

I got in contact with Aillio support at Sweet Maria’s and it looks like the plan is for them to send a replacement induction board. For posterity I’ll post here again when I get it installed and (presumably) the issue is resolved. Here’s hoping!

So it seems like there can be a variety of causes.

In all these cases the line voltage was low but for various reasons. Your Info data for Net Voltage says zero and that makes no sense relative to the roaster issuing an error. If it were really 0 VAC the Bullet would have a blank screen. So it’s likely an error from another cause (power board fault, control board fault, cable connection fault, or ??).

Just popping in with a quick update that I received the replacement induction board from Sweet Maria’s, and after installing it I’m able to start the roaster up without getting any errors. So far so good!
