Thank you for RoasTime4
sorry guys i have to write this in chinese because my english is not that good, so i can explain this propperly

Google-translated Marcelos post:

There are still some blank translations in the software, but I believe it will be perfected before the official version is released.

My problem is that when editing a recipe, the Temperature steps are sorted by temperature from low to high, and the Time steps are sorted by time. So, can you add a custom (time) sort in Temperature steps? For example: at 5:30, I expect the temperature to reach 160 degrees, if it is lower than 158 degrees, then increase the power, if it is higher than 162 degrees, then reduce the power, and limit the temperature at this time point to 160±2 degrees, according to Temperature The temperature sorting of steps makes it easy to see dazzling when editing. If you can customize the sorting by time, it will be more intuitive when editing recipes. The two steps at the time point of 5:30 are in the upper and lower columns, which is clear at a glance.

Roastime has been very good and can continue to evolve and update, thank you for your efforts. awesome!

Thank you @jacob & team - the current roast name on the top left is immensely useful and much appreciated. Also the paste last roast button along with the confirmation/information box works flawlessly now.

Much appreciated!!!

Noticed my first weird issue in RT 4. I don’t use a lot of the features except roasting, so I’m probably dodging some haha.

Scenario. Win10 Laptop turned on from standby, RT4 still running from last session (usually no issues), Roaster plugged into laptop, then turned on and set to preheat.

When it was ready to charge, I got my beans and put them in, then started the roast (not looking at RT4 until about 5min into the roast. ~5min in, look at RT4, notice it’s frozen from a prior roast (shows connected but not showing the roast)Restarted RT4, and the Elapsed time was correct showing ~14min then as I clicked the F1 to annotate FC, FCE, and SC all of those datapoints were showing up as if the roast didn’t start until after I restarted the roast. I.e. FC hit at ~10min elapsed, but the market shows up at the ~5min mark. So it’s marking FC at the time the program’s been open, not the actual elapsed roast time.

Thanks for the report, @prehistoricperk. We’re aware of this issue and are tracking it internally. I’ll write back here when we’re gotten it fixed.

In the meantime I’ll remember to close out after every session.

I couldn’t find “tools” or “settings” in RT4 to update the firmware or to adjust settings. Is it normal or did anyone have the same issue? I’m running macOS Monterey.

Click on your avatar in the top right corner, there you will find the settings

Got it! Thanks Jacob!

OK. So longtime Bullet owner. Been running 3.4.1 with Firmware 602 for six months or more. No real issues. Roasting results are good.
I just updated my Windows 10 laptop to RT 4. Looks ok, it appears to connect to my Bullet. It gives me correct INFO details of my Bullet (V 1.5), and I can use it to start PH, and move through to Cooling and Shutdown.
CURRENT VERSIONS
FE: 1.23.4
BE: 1.13.3
Comms: v1.5.0
However, when I go into Settings, and choose Check FIrmware, it shows me the newest 606…but gives no method to actually download and update.
I thought maybe if I just left it on that settings screen showing 606 it might eventually update the firmware. But no, nothing happens (at least after an hour or so).
Am I missing something? In 3.4.1 it was easy to download new firmware.

Hi. Can you make something like preblend roasting?. so i can controll green beans for the blends.

Not sure what you want to do but yes, you can blend greens then roast. The issue with pre-blending is that not all different varietal greens used in a blend have the same roast time & temp requirements, so the results will be as uneven as the bean varieties dictate. If they appear too different (watch for uneven color for different-sized bean varieties), you may have to do a post-blend. But in terms of the roasting process it’s just another roast. I’ve roasted Sweet Maria’s Liquid Amber and Espresso blends many times without issue but there is some uneveness in color if the blend contains robusta.

I just updated to RT4 and had a problem that I didn’t see in this thread so thought I would report. I have a pretty early V2 machine (s/n 22xx) and connect using a Windows 10 laptop.

When I updated to RT4 I had already updated my roaster to fw 606 beta and had used that with no problems with RT3. After I updated to RT4.1.2, and then ran the software updates after first launch, I had the following showing in Settings:
FE: 1.23.4
BE: 1.13.3
Comms: v1.5.0

The issue I found was that RT4 was not logging any data from my roasts. I could control the roaster using RT4 (setting preheat temp, switching P-R-C) but nothing showed on the graph and RT4 did not display any temperatures or drum, fan, power during my roast. I tried multiple times to reboot the roaster, reboot my Windows machine, plug and unplug USB, force update the components in RT4 Settings, with no change.

However, downgrading from fw 606 back to fw 605 fixed the problem. After going back to 605 I was able to see the roast progress in RT4 and save my roasts. Thought I would report this here in case anyone else has this problem.

p.s. I also am experiencing the bug where RT has the wrong “elapsed time” logged when I mark Yellow, FC, etc. similar to what @prehistoricperk reported above.

Happy New Year!

Hey @gmthree ,

Is your roaster plugged in and detected by RT? If so, it should show a Start button:

@greg Thanks for the report. As far as the “elapsed time” issue - is it under the same circumstances? Is RT left open in sleep and this happens when opening and starting up your roast? Or is this happening on a “fresh” open of the application?

@mcaillio , The “elapsed time” issue for me happened on a fresh open of the application and a second time on the 2nd roast (I did two roasts back-to-back, they are the last two roasts on my roast.world dashboard). Steps were: (1) open RT4; (2) start a Preheat cycle; (3) come back to the machine about 25 minutes later, roaster and RT4 both showing “Charge” message; (4) dump beans and start Roast. From there, RT is showing the correct graph but the wrong time elapsed. The Bullet itself showed the correct elapsed time on its control panel.

Same symptoms when I did the 2nd b2b roast.

If I recall correctly, the elapsed time was off by about 9-10 minutes (e.g. not the full 25 minutes elapsed during the Preheat cycle) but were slightly different between the two roasts. After the roast was done I adjusted the logged times for Yellow and 1C using the roast.world website, but I had to remember to note down the actual times while roasting. Also, after marking 1C, the RT4 display showed a negative number for DT.

Hope that helps debug.

I the pop-up messages cover important information, like roast name, and temps?

In roastime 3, anytime i do anything, a pop up ends up covering some information until i X it out. So every action feels like i need to confirm, and then go X the pop up. And if i choose not too, then i can’t see the roast name or some other information. This i most noticeable when trying to compare different roasts with the overlay feature.

I’m actually in a good place to download the new version, will test it out. Thanks for continuing to update.

EDIT: RoasTime 4 installed on Mojave Mac OS and ran a 605 firmware update on the Bullet with SUCCESS

previous:
Everything seemed to connect ok. changed a few settings, and thought I’d go ahjead and attempt a firmware update on the roaster to 605 stable.

RoasTime 4 crashed mid update and is not responding.

Using Roastime4:

Likes(L):
L1 - roast curve lines are thinner, helps with precision
L2 - the main roast info is in one place for quick reference
L3- It seems easier to go fully GUI in controlling the roaster. BUT I still wish the Buttongs for Powerre and Fan were bigger, and easier to hit with the MOUSE without mistakes. Right now the “+” and “-” buttons are tiny. It feels like a volume slider you might use once in a while, not THE MOST IMPORTANT CONTROLS during a roast.s

Dislikes(D):
D1 - placement of the current batch info entry button. it is a feature that will be used every roast, and the button to enter the roast data for the current roast should be in the region with all the other commonly used controls.
D2 - default colors of the data are awful. Can barely see some of the lines. Could depend on the monitor. But not everyone has the same quality of monitor. Visibility is number 1. then make it look good if needed. Very important to have good default color scheme, because we are all constantly sharing information with eachother, and the less default options we use, the less effecient sharing is. The boss is a photographer and should understand color relationships and making things easier to see.
D3 - pop ups are still annoying and cover other GUI info. best to have a designated window for pop up information, so we don’t have to “X” out the pop ups everytime we do anything. After 10 roasts it gets to be annoying. We’re already working like an octopus stirring the beans to cool, entering roast data, weighing roasted weight and bagging, all the while deciding an approach for that Kenyan coffee that is up next.
D4 - undecided about the new “settings” location. There is so much room on the side, that the settings icon was easily accesible, and it felt right. Now we have to jump over to the other side of the screen and go submenu drop down. It isn’t bad, but again, going for speed and simplicity when roasting. We don’t have time to aim perfectly to hit the drop down menu text. It is just not good UI design, and feels like it was changed “just because”, or by a designer that doesn’t understand a working roaster workflow. We are not apple users, we are working. and we need the tool to be simple and effecient access to important items, not hide anything that is not sexy. I use the settings a lot, because you have to sometimes change the shape of the graphs by schangeing the time length, and this reveals differences between roasts. Please make the Settings a quick access tool again, at leas the chart settings option, so that i can quickly change how the graphs look, to see anomalies and trends in curves. - Also! many Mac users hide the top OS navigation bar, and everytime i mouse to settings, the hidden nav bar drops down and blocks me from getting to settings.

thanks!

Improvement suggestions(S):
S1 - “yellowing” is a very vague term, and I wonder how usfeul the information collected is? Best to define what Aillio considers “yellowing”. Some people call it “green to yellow” and mark the transition similar to FC, when a few beans begin to turn, and then cross referencing the temperature. This allows for more accurate yellow phase marking. This is criticallly crucial,
S2 - Charge temp of current batch. It can help to have the current roast’s charge temp listed in the info. All of our times and targets are based on charge temp, so if we have to remember what it was for 1 or 2 batches, no problem, but 25th batch of the week? Going to start forgetting. Not all of us charge when the machine tells us to.
S3 - When mousing over the roast graph, that time and temp of where the mouse is show. Sometimes trying to guess what a temp is on the ghost curve when roasting, is difficult to tell. Or perhaps have the time/temp listed at power changes and landmarks like FC, if that would be easier.
